Shavuah Tov. What a quiet Shabbat this has been. When I woke up and saw the pile of snow outside my door, I was thankful that we had decided to cancel services today. Although the snow is definitely beautiful, it is nice to experience it from indoors.
I heard from two of our families at T.I. that their college age students are heading to Israel with Birthright this week. Ally Bowers and Julie Evnen are scheduled to be on separate Birthright trips during their winter breaks. How wonderful that two more of our young adults will be able to experience Israel in all of its glory with other young people from all over the United States!
Speaking of Israel, I had a very pleasant Israel/U.S. experience last Thursday. My son in Jerusalem called and we spent time studying parasha Vayigash (which would have been read today) together. We each had a chumash in hand and looked at the various commentaries listed in our books. It was helpful to study with him. I had never really understood the benefit of a chevrusa (study buddy for Torah), but now I'm sold on it. I suppose there are others in our congregation who might enjoy such an opportunity as well. With modern technology in our hands, we could set up a weekly time for individuals to conference call and study the Torah portion together. It would mean you wouldn't have to leave home in order to enjoy a conversation about Torah. Let me know if you're interested and I'll see about making arrangements for a conference call access line.
Once again, Shavuah Tov.
Nancy
