If You Believe in Miracles

What is the likelihood that two Holocaust survivors one from California and one from Nebraska would meet in the rotunda of the Nebraska State Capitol?

What is the likelihood that these two women would both discover that each of them was from Kovno in Lithuania?

What is the likelihood that they would discover that they once lived in the same neighborhood...on the same block....in houses next door to one another?

What is the likelihood that they would have survived the same ghetto, march, and concentration camp?

What is the likelihood that they would both dedicate their lives to establishing new families and making sure that the message of eliminating hatred would flow from their lips for all to hear?

To watch Anne Modenstein and Judy Meisel meet one another today was truly a miracle. One that leads me to thank G-d for making it possible for their paths to cross once again, but this time in an atmosphere in which their greatness could be appreciated by those who encounter them.

Such stories often leave me teary eyed...but in a happy sort of way.
