When you speak about a kehilla/ a holy community/that gathers to support one another at times of joy and at times of great sadness...I do believe you are speaking about Tifereth Israel.
How many other communities without a paid chevra kaddisha and paid sitters, could manage to perform one of the highest mitzvot for an individual upon one day following their death?
How many other communities would make sure that a meal of consolation was prepared and served to over 100 individuals with less than 24 hours notice?
Sure there are places around this country with paid individuals who take on these tasks, but we do it ourselves. From having conversations with families, to having information about gravesites provided to the grave diggers, from having shomrim set up, from having chevra kaddisha organized, from having the shul ready to handle a meal of consolation....we are there for our beloved members and their families.
That's because we are family!
