This morning my son, Yehoshua, and I took a tour organized through Pardes to the Ancient site of Shilo, the place where the Mishkan was placed after the Israelites crossed over into the Land of Canaan. When you travel there, you enter the Benjamin region of Israel. This is the area once controlled by the tribe of Benjamin. It is an interesting area. The soil is rocky. It is very mountainous (although nothing terribly high). Olive trees grow in the craggy soil, as well as grape vineyards. On either side of the road are Arab communities and Jewish communities. Both sides of the road are in ancient areas but appear to have very new buildings!
The ancient site of Shilo was most impressive. It not only shows layers of conquest which is so common in this part of the world, but brings to life the stories in the Tanach ( Genesis, Book of Joshua and Book of Samuel). It was a center to which the Israelites made pilgrimages including on a day known as TU B'AV (a day meant for reconciliation and the display of love between the various tribes of Israel).
It would be good if this kind of day would exist for us everyday.
