Tough Economic Times
What do we do as a Jewish community when a larger number than usual is suddenly faced with the reality that these harsh economic times are offering them no relief? How do we make sure that food is on their tables, a roof is over their heads? How do we help them obtain employment knowing that many other folks are pounding the pavement for work at the same time? I believe the answer is in networking, pulling our resources, and not being judgmental. It is never pleasant to have to ask for help nor does it aid one's self-esteem. Yet we know that as Jews, we are to help one another. As Jews, giving tzedakah isn't a matter of being nice or kind, its a matter of being just. If you can help by putting food in our food bank, please do so. If you can help by offering someone work, please let me know. Whatever you can do to help will make a difference in the life of someone who is struggling. These are not easy times!
