A Wonderful Shabbat

I woke up this morning after coughing all night long, thinking that Shabbat could not possibly be as outstanding a day as I had wished for, due to my lack of rest on Erev Shabbat. I was wrong. Although there were only three of us at the peseukei d'zimrah discussion class, the learning was meaningful. After services, we had our first Lunch and Learn session of the year and Gary Hill was our guest speaker. His topic, human rights and terrorism, was not only educational, but thought provoking. At the end of Shabbat, Rifka Keilson, prepared a superb dinner for members of the congregation based on the fruits of her labor in the congregational garden. The atmosphere was relaxed, the participants represented all age groups, and saying Havdallah to usher in the new week and say farewell to Shabbat was quite nice. Somehow Shabbat managed to overcome my physical need for rest by providing spiritual renewal. What a joy! I thank all who helped make it such a special day.
