A quick but important thought:
If we as a congregation care about Kashrut, which we do, then we also must think along the following lines:
If what goes into our mouths is important, then what comes out of our mouths is just as important. Therefore, we need to make sure that we avoid lashon ha-ra within our walls (and wherever we are). It is too easy to say hurtful things about others without recognizing the true damage that such words can cause. Some think that lashon ha-ra only applies to non-factual information spread about others. That definitely is one category of lashon ha-ra. The other category is spreading information that is harmful even if it is true. It's not easy, but it is an expectation of our Jewish tradition!
