The Mayor of Dimona

Tonight's gathering at Tifereth Israel under the auspices of the Jewish Federation of Lincoln, brought together Mayor Meir Cohen of Dimona, Israel, Mayor Chris Beutler of Lincoln, and members of the Lincoln Jewish community.

What a wonderful gathering it was! Mayor Cohen shared the realities of his visions for changing life in his community by involving the city in the lives of its youngest residents. Dimona's Lunch and Learn program, provides two warm meals a day, tutoring, counseling, enrichment activities to the weakest members of Dimona's diverse community, impoverished youth. With Mayor Cohen's commitment to the youth and their futures, the gap in educational excellence is being closed in this growing Negev city. His story was indeed inspiring.

The photo of the Hamicksburg triplets and Mayor Cohen is indicative of his love for children, even when he is on the road and far away from home.

I'm glad we had an opportunity to open our doors to this warm, articulate visionary!

  1. It was a wonderful evening. It was so great to have Mayor Cohen visit with us. I hope this will create a special connection between Lincoln, Nebraska and Dimona, Israel.
